MEDICINE HAT, Alberta, Aug. 2, 2016 /CNW/ -- U-Haul is proud
to announce it recently opened its first company-owned and -operated store in Medicine Hat at 1901
Highway Ave. SE.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Medicine Hat has been offering
truck and trailer rentals, moving supplies, U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers, and professional hitch installation
while operating out of a temporary showroom since April 28.
"We are thrilled to bring a full-service U-Haul facility to the Redcliff and Medicine Hat communities," U-Haul Company of Southern Alberta president
Gordon Anderson said. "We will be able to offer state-of-the-art self-storage and a full U-Box
warehouse to local residents and the students at Medicine Hat College."
Upon the completion of construction, the facility will boast more than 300 heated, indoor self-storage units; a
10,000-square-foot U-Box warehouse; and a designated area for outdoor RV, boat and vehicle storage.
Stop by U-Haul Moving & Storage of Medicine Hat or call (587) 770-0141. Hours of operation
are from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.
Reserve equipment at uhaul.com or contact Reservations at 1-800-GO-UHAUL.
Anderson said the store will look to hire locally to promote job growth within the community. When this location is fully
operational, he expects to employ at least six U-Haul Team Members.
The 8.36-acre U-Haul property encompasses five buildings totaling 41,569 square feet. Most of the square footage is split
between the former main Flint Energy Services Ltd. building, erected in 1974, and an additional 10,500-square-foot structure built
in 2006.
"The building sat empty for more than a year, so we are excited to be able to reuse an existing property," Anderson said. "It's
located right on the Trans-Canada Highway and sits along the boundary between Redcliff and
Medicine Hat, giving us the opportunity to serve two important communities with one store."
The acquisition of the Medicine Hat facility was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill development to
help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and
resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused
buildings.
